Keeping things neat and tidy

iThoughts has a number of ‘tricks’ to help you keep your maps ‘neat and tidy’.

  1. Auto align an entire map

  2. Auto align a branch

  3. Align sibling topics above or below

  4. Hide or show branches (and limit the depth)

Alternatively, you could let iThoughts do it all for you - see here for more details.

The technique required to access all this ‘tidiness’ is known as p-press-n-hold. Perhaps a better way to describe it is a double tap - but without removing your finger after the second tap (for a while.) If configured, this will result in a brief vibration (see ‘Settings’) If you do this on the root topic then you will see the following effect - with the entire map getting ‘straightened up’.

In the example above, the + next to the root topic (‘Test’) was pressed. The user can then choose to hide ALL child topics or show topics to a depth of 1, 2 or ALL

After choosing to show just 1 level, the user is then offered the chance to have the visible children ‘organised’ (as though p-press-n-hold had been happened.)

If you perform the p-press-n-hold operation on a child topic (with siblings and children of its own) then you will be presented with more options as follows.

In the next example, we selected ‘Organise Children’ - which as you would expect...

In the next example, we selected ‘Align siblings ABOVE’ (and BELOW) - this ‘left justifies’ the sibling topics and spaces them out evenly either above or below the chosen topic. The option to ‘Align Siblings’ simply ‘left justifies’ the topics - without altering the spacing.

If your map becomes a little large and unwieldy then iThoughts has a solution - ‘collapsible branches’. Simply tap the + symbol next to a topic and hide or show its children. By double tapping the + symbol you will be presented with more options as follows:
