Transferring Maps (via Browser and Wifi)

iThoughts contains a mini-web server. This enables you to connect to it using a web browser over a wifi connection. Once connected you can upload or download mindmaps (see here for a list of supported formats) in the same way you might upload or download photos from a photo sharing site. This works from most popular browsers (Firefox, IE, Safari, Opera) and most operating systems (OSX, Windows XP, Vista and Linux.)

To download a map from your iPhone to your PC/Mac:

  1. 1.Ensure that both devices have wifi switched on and are both connected to the same network (see our troubleshooting section for more details.)

  2. 2.Launch iThoughts and select the ‘Transfer’ button at the bottom left of the main screen followed by ‘Wifi Transfer’. This turns iThoughts into a mini web server (temporarily.)

  3. 3.Launch your web browser and enter the exact URL displayed at the top of the screen into your browser address field. This is the http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:nnnnn field (5 digits after the colon) This will bring up a page listing the maps that are on your iPhone with associated ‘download’ links representing the different formats in which you can download the map.

  4. 4.Right click on the desired format and select ‘save as’.

IMPORTANT: If a particular download link is greyed out that means iThoughts is not configured to export that format (see here for instructions on enabling a particular export format)

Uploading a map is a similar process only this time you must click the ‘choose file’ button on the web page, browse to your mindmap and then click upload.

Bonjour can make this even easier

If you have 'Bonjour' installed on your computer then you can browse to your iPod/iPhone directly (without specifically having to enter the http:// address.) 'Bonjour' is a network technology that comes pre-installed on Macs and can be downloaded for Windows (Google for 'apple bonjour'.)

If you're using the Safari web browser on a Mac simply click the 'Bookmarks' icon in the top left and then 'Bonjour' then select your device from the list as shown in the following screenshot:

NB: An alternative approach is to select the 'Bookmarks|Show All Bookmarks' menu.

To use 'Bonjour' from Internet Explorer, you must first download and install the Bonjour software (from the Apple site.) Once installed, you should see a new icon on your 'Command Bar' - click this to reveal the list of devices - as demonstrated below:

If the 'Bonjour' icon does not appear on your toolbar then:

•Right click 'Home' icon then...

•Select 'Customise Command Bar' then...

•'Add or Remove Commands' then...

•ensure that 'Bonjour' is included under 'Current Toolbar Buttons'
