Wifi Woes

If there is no ‘ticked’ network, then you need to sort this first. Typically your iPhone will ask you if you wish to connect when in the vicinity of a wifi network. You will then be prompted for an access code - which is typically printed on the bottom of the wifi router.

Once ‘on the network’, launch iThoughts and select ‘Transfer’ at the top of the main screen - this will load the ‘Transfer’ page which will tell you the address of the iPhone - enabling you to connect to it from a browser - as below:

If this address begins with either of the following:

  1. http://127.0.0.1

  2. http://169.254.x.x

Then the iPhone/Touch still isn’t properly connected to the wifi network.

Anything else that it could be?

Some companies split their wifi networks such that employees log onto one network and guest onto another. So whilst it may appear to be a single network (i.e. same company, same building) it may actually be 2 separate networks that cannot communicate with each other.

Perhaps the most frequent support issue we receive is a variation on “I’m having difficulty downloading maps via my browser.” Without exception, this has been down to wifi configuration issues. This page will describe some of the common symptoms and cures.

It is possible to import and export mindmaps, to and from iThoughts by using a web browser and wifi. For this to work, both the iPhone and the PC/Mac must be connected to the same wifi network. It will not work over 3G or Edge.

How do I know if my iPhone is connected to the wifi network?

There will be a ‘radar’ symbol in the top left - next to the name of the service provider - circled in red below:

How do I enable wifi and connect to the network?

Select ‘Settings’ and then Wifi - you will be presented with the screen to the right. In this case it is connected to a wifi network called ‘SCOTTNET’.
